I think this rain is never going to end..yuck! I hate taking puppy out and when we come back, we are both drenched...so not loving this :(
I wanted to share some insight on what I have been starting to do lately. I have started counting calories. Now... I know some of you are like "oh please, that's ridiculous", but it has seriously opened my eyes to see what crap I have been consuming and why I have been feeling gross and unmotivated.
I downloaded this app on my iphone called My Net Diary.
It's an app that allows you to put in everything that you eat throughout the day. It even has a barcoade scanner that you can just put up to a food label and scan it and it will transfer all the info on the label over to the app. It's honestly... amazing!! You can put in your current weight, measurements (optional), breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, water, exercise you've done throughout the day and more into this program...
What I have been noticing is that I have been eating like a pig and not even knowing it. On my first day, my net diary calculated that I consume over 2500 cal per day!!!! That's insane!!!! It recommended that I eat about 1400-1500 cal per day based on what my goals are and my current weight and height. So really.. that's why I have been feeling like I've put on 5 lbs, because 2500 cal a day is way too much for my frame.
What I've noticed that I'm doing, is that I'm still eating healthy meals, but I'm almost snacking way too much and too often through the day. Since I'm the #1 fan of junk food, I treat myself to it in small bits that I think it's not going to do much. When I add up a chocolate here, a chip there, a french fry over there... By the end of the day, I've almost had a full bag of chips, a plate of fries and two chocolate bars...Blah!!!!
Anyhow, I know lots of people aren't into counting calories, but its really a good way to really see what you are eating on a daily basis. I have been trying to stick to a 1500 cal per day diet. The funny thing is... since I have this app, I don't want to put too much onto it. LOL.. It's the same way with people writing down everything they eat. I've started picking and choosing what I grab for in the cupboard because the app is almost playing games with me to see what I pick. I don't starve myself or anything, that's not what it's for. I use it as a tool to keep myself from stuffing too much crap into my mouth and also to see if I'm eating enough protein, fibre, carbs etc...
I have already noticed a difference with the way that I feel. I have been using this for about a week now and I'm not feeling like my pants are going to pop, which is crazy thumbs up in my world.
With this app, you can search for your food that you have had if it doesn't have a label, even fast food places like Mc Donalds, Wendy, KFC, etc... You really have to be honest though. If you had a cheeseburger, you HAVE TO include the toppings that you had too, because all those toppings contains calories...who knew?? lol.
Oh my gosh, my poor glasses of wine. I have been drinking a glass or two of red wine every night...BF wants to sign me up for Wine AA. lol..Seriously though, I love the taste...so yum!!! Glasses of wine are your calorie enemy people!!! One glass of wine has like 165 cals per glass.. holy craziness right??? Since I can't give up my wine-a-holic ways, I've cut it down to about a half a cup of wine a night. In fact, I have been cutting my portion sizes in half. My calorie counter loves me more.
Anyhow, if you have an iphone or ipad this app will work great. If you have blackberry, I think it has My Net Diary, I have to check, otherwise there should be something similar. It doesn't have to be this program.
Honestly everyone, it's worth it to your body to see what you are stuffing your face with. If you are the type of person that I am who loves to snack, buying a protein powder and making a shake to bring with you for a morning and/or afternoon snack, will honestly fill you up rather than filling up on junk. You just have to try it!!

WAIT.... I just checked and blackberry has a My Net Diary app too!!!!!
